Letter from the Managing Partner
Dear clients and friends:
I am pleased to inform you that our firm has just opened a new office in London – UK this June 2020, opening for the first time our own office outside our borders. Although our physical location is in London, the scope of work is extended to the entire United Kingdom, with the aim of providing personalized and personal attention in other cities such as Oxford or Manchester. In this way we provide all our clients with a synchronized team of lawyers located in both countries, so that they feel that they are being attended according to the usual criteria of their own culture and idiosyncrasy.
It is a significant milestone in our trajectory precisely when we are about to celebrate 45 years of practicing law from our office. We could not have chosen a more appropriate place and time to commemorate such a significant anniversary, and all this despite the busy dates we are going through with health and macroeconomic news that incite discouragement. We take advantage of this welcome news to send a message of encouragement and hope for those who have been most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the difficulties foreshadowed by the end of the state of alarm require imaginative measures, the search for new markets and greater efficiency.
This initiative was born as a result of the development and organic growth that our firm is going through, with the aim of providing better assistance to our client portfolio and expanding the geographical scope of our legal services. We want to have a presence in the city with the greatest business and financial weight in Europe, just when the United Kingdom will be disengaging from the EU institutions. The Brexit will mean a radical change in the commercial relations of our companies with British companies; relations in which EU directives and regulations will no longer necessarily govern. The corporate structures themselves will have to adapt to this new scenario, and we wish to accompany our clients in all these changes.
We are confident in the usefulness of offering specialized legal advice to operators based in Spain and the United Kingdom, with interests in both countries and in other international markets, especially with regard to Latin America and the rest of the European continent. Although we will make available to the international project all our structure with our 360º service, the most important area of activity will be the advice on international contracts, IP, litigation and arbitration.
I also take this opportunity to announce the incorporation to JLCasajuana of a new partner, David Lorenzo, who will manage our headquarters in the UK and will be at the service of our clients in that country. David comes from the famous British law firm Clarke Willmott where he headed the “Spanish Desk“, previously he has been part of other prestigious British law firms such as Freeths or DWF. He has spent most of his professional career as an applicant in the United Kingdom, although he is also a registered lawyer in Spain. This dual status and experience in both countries gives him an unbeatable position to provide top quality attention to our clients. He has also been honorary consul of Spain in Manchester until last year 2019. David will have the opportunity to continue his brilliant career by launching our project in the UK, and we wish him a successful future in our firm. I want to make public my thanks to David for joining our staff and having bet on this team of professionals in JLCasajuana.
A warm greeting, on behalf of myself, and on behalf of our entire team.
José Luis Casajuana Espinosa Partner Director.
